Study Programmes
Employability Skills
We offer three types of Employability Skills Study Programmes all providing you with transferable skills needed to make you ’employable’. Along with good understanding and subject knowledge, employers often look for other set skills that they want from an employee e.g. communication skills.
These programmes are delivered in our classrooms at our Mattishall site.

City & Guilds Level 1 Extended Certificate in Employability Skills
This Study Programme provides you with the capability and knowledge needed to prepare you for employment. The programme will include effective communication, introduction to ICT, applying for a job, interview skills, searching for a job and much more.
You will be working alongside other students in a classroom environment completing taught sessions led by our experienced tutors. Your tutor will also set written work via an online portfolio.
The course will also offer:
- Level 1 Functional Skills English (if required)
- Level 1 Functional Skills Maths (if required)
Entry Requirements
You must be between the ages of 16-18. There are no formal academic entry requirements; however, an initial selection interview is mandatory.
Progression Opportunities
There are opportunities to continue your studies with an Apprenticeship or it could lead to employment.
Costs
If you are 16-18 there are no course fees payable, however you may have some costs associated with uniform, equipment etc.
British Horse Society Challenge Awards Qualifications in Horse Knowledge & Employability Skills
This Study Programme gives you the opportunity to start your career path within the Equine industry as well as the chance to develop your employability skills at the same time. The programme will involve a mix of practical horse care tasks such as stable care, grooming, horse health and feeding as well as classroom based taught sessions where you will learn conduct at work, effective communication, introduction to ICT, applying for a job and interview skills. Your tutor will also set written work via an online portfolio.
You will be working with other students three days a week, one day at Poultec Training in Mattishall and two days at Kimblewick Equestrian Centre a friendly, professional riding school who cater for all levels, from beginners to experienced riders.
The course will also offer:
- Level 1 Functional Skills English (if required)
- Level 1 Functional Skills Maths (if required)

Helping you choose your career – Level 1 Extended Award in Employability Skills
This Study Programme provides you with the opportunity to experience snippets of different career paths helping you make a clearer decision on which industry you would like to pursue.
You will be working alongside other students in a classroom environment completing taught sessions led by our experienced tutors. These will include cooking up a storm in our purpose-built cookery suite, preparing and cooking a variety of dishes, jumping into our dedicated training facilities and grasping the various aspects and skills needed to instruct fitness, cutting your way through our teaching salon and mastering the art of all thing’s hairdressing and barbering, swinging golf clubs at Mattishall Golf Club and absorbing all things golf coaching by PGA Qualified Golf Professionals and making sparks fly in the workshop at our Norwich Engineering Centre by carrying out basic hands on engineering tasks. Your tutor will also set written work via an online portfolio.
