Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Agriculture (Poultry)

The Diploma is aimed at learners who work or want to work in the Agriculture sector. It allows the learner to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression. Units can be chosen to meet the specific pathway (grower, breeder, hatchery, rearer or grow-on).

The qualification includes the following mandatory units:

  • Monitoring and maintaining health & safety
  • Maintaining and developing personal performance
  • Maintaining site biosecurity and person hygiene

Sector specific pathways include:

  • Grower
  • Breeder
  • Hatchery
  • Rearer
  • Grow-on (turkeys)

The successful learner will have an increased knowledge or understanding of:

  • Bird welfare issues and codes of practice
  • Site safety
  • Site biosecurity procedures
  • Bird performance monitoring
  • Record keeping

This qualification takes between 12-18 months to complete.

Level 3 Diploma in Work-based Agriculture (Poultry)

The Diploma is aimed at learners who work as a farm manager or assistant farm manager within the Agriculture sector. It allows the learner to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression. Units can be chosen to meet the specific pathway (grower, breeder, hatchery, rearer or grow-on).

The qualification includes the following mandatory units:

  • Promoting, monitoring and maintaining health, safety and security in the workplace
  • Communicate information within the workplace
  • Maintain and store records within the workplace
  • Establish, monitor and maintain site hygiene and biosecurity

Sector specific pathways include:

  • Grower
  • Breeder
  • Hatchery
  • Rearer
  • Grow-on (turkeys)

The successful learner will have an increased knowledge or understanding of:

  • Factors affecting bird performance
  • How to monitor and analyse bird performance
  • Recognition of bird health issues
  • Site safety and risk assessment
  • Site biosecurity and disease prevention
  • Effective communication and record keeping skills
  • Environmental control and monitor

This qualification takes between 18-24 months to complete.
