UK hairdressing is renowned internationally for its creativity and high standards, with much of the world looking at the UK for inspiration.
Study Programmes
Hairdressing & Barbering
We offer three types of Hairdressing and Barbering Study Programme; mixed Hairdressing and Barbering, Hairdressing only and Barbering only. All providing you with transferable skills needed to make you ’employable’ within the hairdressing and barbering industry.
These programmes are delivered in our fully functioning hair salon at our Mattishall site.

City & Guilds Level 1 NVQ Certificate in Hairdressing and Barbering
This Study Programme is designed to provide hands-on practical work preparing you for a career in hairdressing or barbering. This programme involves blow drying hair, shampooing and conditioning hair, assisting with perming/ colouring/ lightening services, removing hair extension and plaiting hair techniques.
You will be working beside other students in our fully functioning hair salon at our Mattishall site. The studio has individual chair stations and you will be assigned your own chair which is fully-equipped with all the hairdressing tools. Your tutor will also carry out classroom-based teaching session as well as setting you written work via an online portfolio.
The course will also offer:
- Level 1 Functional Skills English (if required)
- Level 1 Functional Skills Maths (if required)
Entry Requirements:
You must be between the ages of 16-18. Math’s and English GCSE 3 and above (or equivalent)
Progression Opportunities:
There are opportunities to continue your studies with an Apprenticeship or it could lead to employment.
Costs:
If you are 16-18 there are no course fees payable, however you may have some costs associated with uniform, equipment etc.
City & Guilds Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing
This Study Programme is composed to supply you with practical experience helping you build up the foundation skills to start a career in hairdressing. This programme includes advising and consulting with clients, coloring/lighting hair, setting/dressing/styling/finishing hair, cutting using basic techniques and perming/neutralizing hair.
On all of these Study Programmes you will be working beside other students in our fully functioning hair salon at our Mattishall site. The studio has individual chair stations and you will be assigned your own chair which is fully-equipped with all the hairdressing tools. Your tutor will also carry out classroom-based teaching session as well as setting you written work via an online portfolio.

- CV & Interview Skills Workshop
- Level 1 Functional Skills English (if required)
- Level 1 Functional Skills Maths (if required)

The Barbering Study Programme is made to give you with real life experience enabling you to develop the ability to start a career in barbering. This programme consists of cutting facial hair, advising/consulting clients, assisting with shaving services and drying and finishing men’s hair.
On all of these Study Programmes you will be working beside other students in our fully functioning hair salon at our Mattishall site. The studio has individual chair stations and you will be assigned your own chair which is fully-equipped with all the hairdressing tools. Your tutor will also carry out classroom-based teaching session as well as setting you written work via an online portfolio.
