Study Programmes
Engineering
Our suite of Engineering study programmes are delivered in our dedicated engineering teaching facility at the Henderson Business Centre in Norwich. Spread across three workshops, learners have specialist teaching environments for the teaching of automotive, mechanical and composite engineering. Study programmes are made up of a blend of theory and hands-on teaching.
Following the successful completion of a study programme learners have the opportunity to progress onto an Apprenticeship.
City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance
Description
This course is an ideal introduction into the industry; the course focuses on the first steps involved with vehicle maintenance, and looks at various aspects required to kick start your career. It will cover;
- Introduction to vehicle technology and workshop methods and processes
- Carry out basic routine vehicle maintenance
- Support Working Relationships in the Automotive Work Environment
- Health, Safety and Good Housekeeping in the Automotive Environment
- Support working relationships in the Automotive Work Environment
- Removing and Replacing Light Vehicle Engine Units and Components
- Removing and Replacing Light Vehicle Electrical Units and Components
- Removing and Replacing Light Vehicle Chassis Units and Components
- Light Vehicle Engine Mechanical, Lubrication and Cooling System Units and Components
- Inspection, Repair and Replacement of Standard Light Vehicle Tyres
- Vehicle Braking Systems
- Vehicle Steering and Suspension System

Entry Requirements
You must be between the ages of 16-18. There are no formal academic entry requirements; however an initial selection interview is mandatory.
Progression Opportunities
To further your knowledge/skillset and become more employable within the given industry, subject to
securing a work placement a full Apprenticeship is a possible route.
Costs
If you are 16 – 18 there are no course fees payable, however you may have some costs associated with
uniform, equipment etc.

Description
This course is an ideal introduction into the Engineering industry; this course focuses on the

career, you will be:

- Making components using hand tools and fitting techniques
- Using grinding machines
- Cutting and shaping platework components
- Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively

This course is an ideal introduction into the welding and fabrication industry; this course focuses on the knowledge and theory side of welding and fabrication as well as practical skills. Units include:

Understanding engineering drawings
Includes TIG, MIG, oxy gas, thermal cutting, sheet work and plate work
