About the programme

If you’re looking to pursue a career in hairdressing or barbering, our 16–18 study programmes are the perfect place to start. Delivered at our purpose-built training salon, our hands-on courses are designed for 16–18-year-olds who want to gain real experience, learn industry-standard techniques and build the confidence to work in a professional salon or barbershop.
 
Throughout the programme, you will engage in hands-on experiences with real paying clients in our fully operational salon. With expert tutors, practical learning and work experience opportunities, you’ll develop the skills and knowledge needed to progress onto higher-level training, apprenticeships, or employment — setting you up for success in this exciting industry.

Study Programmes

City & Guilds Level 1 NVQ Certificate in Hairdressing and Barbering
Starting September 2025

This Hairdressing and Barbering course for 16-18-year-olds is ideal for those looking to take their first step into the industry with no previous experience. You will learn skills and techniques in blow drying hair, shampooing and conditioning hair, assisting with perming/colouring/ lightening services, and more.

What are the benefits?
Entry requirements:

You must be between the ages of 16-18. There are no formal academic entry requirements; however, an initial selection interview is mandatory.

City & Guilds Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing
Starting September 2025

This hairdressing course for 16-18-year-olds is perfect for beginners or those with some foundational knowledge and skills. You will develop a versatile skill set, including client consultation, hair colouring and highlighting, styling and finishing techniques, basic hair cutting methods, hair perming and neutralising, and more.

What are the benefits?

You must be between the ages of 16-18. There are no formal academic entry requirements; however, an initial selection interview is mandatory.

City & Guilds Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Barbering
Starting September 2025

This Barbering course for 16-18-year-olds is perfect for beginners or those with some foundational knowledge and skills. You will acquire core skills and knowledge, including expertise in cutting facial hair, providing client consultations, assisting with shaving services, and mastering the art of drying and finishing men’s hair, among other essential techniques.
