First Fitness Apprentice Abs-olutely Smashes EPA!

Congratulations to Poultec Training’s Fitness Instructor and tutor Tiago, for gaining a well-deserved distinction in the final part of his Personal Trainer Apprenticeship Standard.

The independent End Point Assessment consisted of practical observation, a presentation and a professional discussion. Tiago said ‘It felt amazing to achieve the highest grade possible. I would like to think I was confident going into the end point assessment, however after hearing I gained a distinction my confidence was definitely boosted which has helped me a lot moving forward’.

Tiago’s tutor Anne says ‘Tiago was one of the first learners to sign up to the course back in August 2019 and this qualification was totally new to all of us here at Poultec Training. As this was the first fitness EPA we have carried out I was keen and able to observe most of the elements and see for myself how tough it was.’

Tiago used his knowledge and experience he had gained from doing this 18-month Apprenticeship to pass each section and his hard work really paid off. The majority of Tiago’s Apprenticeship was during a national lockdown, therefore teaching and learning methods had to be adapted. ‘We had lots of taught classes, observations and revision sessions either face to face or over Zoom depending on what was safe to do so at that point in time’ says Anne.

This Apprenticeship helps fitness enthusiasts kick start their career and it opens lots of doors for future progression. ‘This course has enabled me to deliver personal training sessions to Gymtec Fitness members and has taught and encouraged me to make my sessions specialised to each of my future clients.’

Previous to this Apprenticeship, Tiago has been working as a Fitness Instructor at Gymtec since it opened in 2016. Tiago undertook his City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement in 2019 which enabled him to became a Fitness Tutor for Poultec Training, to teach our Level 2 Fitness programmes. ‘I enjoy training and I felt this was the next step to progress further in my career.’ With another qualification under his belt, Tiago will now be able to teach others like himself the Personal Trainer Apprenticeship Standard via Poultec Training Ltd.

‘Completing this Apprenticeship has taught me so much, for example how to manage and advertise my business and also more in-depth knowledge in to the human anatomy and physiology so I can understand how to help each client whether it be losing weight, gaining weight, strength training or sports specific. I would 100% recommend this course to anyone. The quality of the course and sessions were great with amazing support from my tutor in the classroom and even remotely during lockdown, Anne was very helpful and supportive.’

‘I am really pleased Tiago gained a well-deserved distinction and it just shows we can still achieve a qualification even in a lockdown! Congratulations Tiago you have set the bar high!’ states Anne.
