Congratulations Serena for passing Butchery EPA with excellence!

Our first Butchery Standard Apprentice Serena has passed End Point Assessment with excellence, congratulations Serena!

Serena has been an Apprentice Butcher at Impsons Butchers in Swaffham for 2 years and via Poultec Training Ltd, has completed the Butchery Worker Apprenticeship Standard. This consists of FDQ Level 2 Diploma for Proficiency in Meat and Poultry Industry Skills, Level 2 Award in Food Safety Manufacturing MAP, Level 2 Award in Knife Skills for Food and Level 2 Health and Safety in Food Supply Chain Business. The final part of the Apprenticeship is an independent End Point Assessment consisting of multiple tests, a practical butchery exam and a professional discussion. Serena passed with excellence!

Serena said ‘The monthly Poultec butchery workshops helped me develop my basic butchery skills and learn new ways of butchery and different methods. Butchery has so many different methods and ways of doing things so it was helpful to see things from a different perspective and how other people do it.’ I have really enjoyed attending at Poultec Training and learning different aspects of the job that we don’t cover at work. Having the butchery workshops allowed me to gain my confidence in butchery.’

Serena spent her childhood helping her Dad, who is a gamekeeper, butcher venison to make burgers and sausages. ‘After completing my A levels, I knew I wanted to do a practical job rather than go to university and I saw the apprenticeship on Indeed. I didn’t know if I’d be any good at it but it was an interest I had, so I applied and I ended up starting a week after completing my exams.’ says Serena.

Tutor Michael added ‘Serena has been a pleasure to train as she has a passion for butchery and was keen to improve her knowledge and skills. She is very hard working and her ambition is to run her own butchers. Serena worked hard to learn different butchery skills in all areas. Well done!’

‘Serena has been a vital part of the team and the customers love her. She has improved her skills and knowledge to a very high level. Following the completion of  the apprenticeship, Serena’s confidence has improved which is great to see’ said by staff members from Impsons Butchers.
