Mattishall Beer Festival

The Directors of South Green Park have taken the difficult decision to not run a beer festival in 2011.

Previous years have been a great success and have generally been enjoyed by the local community, but in 2010 a small number of local residents raised significant objections to the playing of live music until midnight on the day of the festival.  This necessitated an on-going dialogue with Breckland Council and required extensive noise monitoring and negotiation and there is an expectation that this will be as rigorous if not more so in 2011.  While we would undoubtedly have overcome the issues, we felt that this was not really in the spirit of the festival and hence the decision.

Many local residents will know that the festival, in the past has enabled us to raise money to support the local football and cricket teams, provide equipment and facilities for the Mattishall First Responders, provide free activity days for Mattishall Primary School as well as providing support for other causes such as the Macmillan Coffee morning and Dereham Otters fundraising activities.  We would like to reassure you that while the decision to not run the festival will undoubtedly have some impact on our ability to continue some of this support, we will where possible continue to support local worthy causes.
