As one of the first National Skills Academies for Food and Drink, Poultec Training have been recognised as a market leading provider with specialist expertise in the sector. Poultec employs a large team of industry competent assessors and trainers who deliver to the industry on a national basis.

Poultec delivers food manufacture qualifications in the workplace. This is planned with the employer to ensure all staff receive the required training, including staff on night shifts. Poultec have developed customised programmes which relate directly to the employer’s varied work procedures and tasks making the training 100% relevant to all learners.

Poultec offers a wide range of consultancy and industry relevant courses, which include various Food Safety, Health and Safety and HACCP courses at different levels to cater for the entire workforce. These courses can be delivered on the employer’s premises, at Poultec’s Training Centre or at any other suitable location.

Description – This Apprenticeship is designed for anyone starting out in, or progressing in, a career in food manufacturing. You could be working in a wide range of industries, from baking to brewing and confectionery to retail. The learner will be assessed in the workplace and on successful completion the learner will be equipped to undertake a variety of quality improvement roles within the food manufacturing industry.

The qualification provides choice in a wide range of automated or manual processing techniques or distribution, service and retail skills to confirm occupational competence in specific job roles.

Description – This qualification is designed primarily for learners in the meat and poultry industry who wish to develop advanced skills and knowledge required to confirm occupational competence at work. The qualification provides choice in a wide range of control, monitoring and management of processing operations or distribution, service and retail operations to confirm occupational competence in specific job roles. It is ideal for learners who carry out routine workplace tasks and who may use this qualification as a stepping stone to larger qualifications of this type. The qualification covers mandatory skills from a wide range of areas like: controlling meat and poultry processing plant, monitoring production, management of operations, diagnosis and resolution of problems, quality testing and sampling, co-ordinating butchery service and retail operations.

Description – This qualification enables learners to be able to work and train in project teams to develop the critical skills and knowledge to deliver business improvement and sustainable growth. The Level 2 qualification is most suitable for operatives who are working in businesses that are undergoing improvement, and who want to develop basic skills in change management.

Content – The qualification includes the following mandatory units:

  • Working effectively with others in food operations
  • Maintain product quality in food operations
  • Understand food safety standards
  • Organise and improve work activities for achieving excellence

Optional units include:

  • Reduce and manage conflict in achieving excellence in food operations
  • Contribute to problem resolution in food manufacture
  • Principles of HACCP based food safety systems

Description – This NVQ offer learners the opportunity to develop professional skills and knowledge for the meat and poultry industry, including handling of livestock, primary meat processing, secondary processing/butchery and butchery sales and service. They could help you to progress in your career or to move into a specialist area, such as quality assurance or laboratory operations.
