Poultec have been delivering training to the poultry industry for over 15 years and have an excellent record of providing the service and skills the sector requires. All of Poultec’s work-based Agricultural Diplomas and Apprenticeships are delivered on the learner’s farm or hatchery which ensures all of the training is 100% relevant and reduces disruption to the employer. Poultec employs a large team of industry competent assessors which allows us to provide coverage on a national basis.

As well as Workbased Agricultural Diplomas and Apprenticeships, Poultec offers a wide range of poultry welfare, hygiene & biosecurity and environmental courses which cover all aspects of poultry production. These can be delivered on the employer’s premises, at Poultec’s training centre or at any other suitable location.

Courses > Agriculture

Description – The Apprenticeship is aimed at learners who work or want to work in the Agriculture (Poultry) sector. It allows the learner to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression. Units can be chosen to meet the specific pathway (grower, breeder, hatchery, rearer or grow-on).

Content – The qualification includes the following framework:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Work based Agriculture
  • Level 1 Functional Skills Maths and English
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
  • Employee Rights & Responsibilities

Benefits – The successful Apprentice will have an increased knowledge or understanding of:

  • Bird welfare issues and codes of practice
  • Site safety
  • Site biosecurity procedures
  • Bird performance monitoring
  • Record keeping

Duration – 12-18 months

Progression – Advanced Apprenticeship in Agriculture

Description – The Apprenticeship is aimed at learners who work as a farm manager or assistant farm manager within the Agriculture (Poultry) sector. It allows the learner to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression. Units can be chosen to meet the specific pathway (grower, breeder, hatchery, rearer or grow-on).

Content – The qualification includes the following framework:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Work based Agriculture
  • Level 2 Functional Skills Maths and English
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
  • Employee Rights & Responsibilities

Benefits – The successful Apprentice will have an increased knowledge or understanding of:

  • Factors affecting bird performance
  • How to monitor and analyse bird performance
  • Recognition of bird health issues
  • Site safety and risk assessment
  • Site biosecurity and disease prevention
  • Effective communication and record keeping skills
  • Environmental control and monitor

Duration – 18-24 months

Progression – ILM qualifications

Description – The Diploma is aimed at learners who work or want to work in the Agriculture sector. It allows the learner to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression. Units can be chosen to meet the specific pathway (grower, breeder, hatchery, rearer or grow-on).

Content – The qualification includes the following mandatory units:

  • Monitoring and maintaining health & safety
  • Maintaining and developing personal performance
  • Maintaining site biosecurity and person hygiene

Sector specific pathways include:

  • Grower
  • Breeder
  • Hatchery
  • Rearer
  • Grow-on (turkeys)

Benefits – The successful Apprentice will have an increased knowledge or understanding of:
