European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
IT skills have become a requirement for many employers when employing new staff. ECDL is a qualification recognised by most companies both in the UK and Europe. It is specifically designed for those who wish to gain a basic qualification in computing.
BCS Level 1 Certificate for IT Users (ECDL Part 1) Is designed to give an initial overview of computer use for candidates wishing to gain a qualification. The qualification is made up of the following modules which have direct mapping to the European Computer Driving Licence for the following modules:
Concepts of Information Technology (ECDL module 1) Using the computer and managing files (ECDL module 2) Information and communications (ECDL module 7) Progressing to:
BCS Level 2 Certificate for IT Users (ECDL Part 2) If you have completed your ECDL and want to progress your skills, or if you are already a ‘power user’ – ECDL Advanced is the qualification for you. ECDL Advanced will allow you to demonstrate your higher level computer skills and that you are confident.
ECDL Advanced is available for the following applications:
Word Processing
Spreadsheets
Databases
Presentations
You can take any of the modules individually to receive an ECDL Advanced certificate in that application or, if you complete all of the modules, you will receive an additional ECDL Expert certificate showing that you are truly expert in computer use! Complete 3 modules plus the ECDL ‘E’ module for a Level 3 Qualification.
CLAiT
CLAiT is a nationally recognised qualification from OCR (Oxford, Cambridge & RSA). Over 2 million people in the UK now hold CLAiT certificates, making CLAiT the benchmark qualification in IT.
CLAiT (Level 1) – for the beginner – boosts confidence CLAiT Plus (Level2) – for those with some experience – increases IT productivity
Aimed at two levels, CLAiT is a package of computer qualifications for learners of all abilities looking to develop or progress their skills. Learners can progress through the levels within CLAiT, developing and enhancing their IT skills as they go. CLAiT can lead to exciting things such as website design and electronic media.
Each unit is individually assessed. To achieve the Certificate a candidate is required to achieve Unit 1 (File Management and e-Document Production) plus 2 optional units. To achieve a Diploma a candidate is required to achieve Unit 1 plus 4 optional units.
Some previous experience of using a computer would prove beneficial. Course assignments can be taken individually and include:

Unit 2 Creating Spreadsheets and Graphs using Microsoft Excel
Unit 3 Database Manipulation using Microsoft Access
Unit 4 e-Publication Creation using Microsoft Publisher
Unit 5 Create an e-Presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint
Unit 6 e-Image Creation
Unit 7 Web Page Creation using Microsoft FrontPage
Unit 8 On-line Communication using Microsoft Internet Explorer & Outlook
